Step One: Put on your walking shoes. Galway is a walking city, especially considering some of Ireland’s best buskers can be found on Shop Street, and you couldn’t fully experience that from the seat of a car. There are little details everywhere that give a glimpse into the history of the city that can only be seen on foot. If you only have two days to spend in the city before heading off to explore the wilds of Connemara, perhaps split up the main areas, one day for the medieval city and one day for cruising along Galway Bay, the inlet of water between counties Galway and Clare, the perfect vantage point from which to view the city’s distinctive skyline.
